Beijing Yanqing National Geological Park of Silica Woods, 100km north of Beijing, is situated on the Bai River, Yanqing County. The Park stretches an entire area of 226 km2 , including five scene spots and a myriad of geological and natural landscape. It is the sole state geological park featuring typical, rare and precious silica woods.
The Park boasts a unique terrain and abundant tourism resources. Nestled in two sedimentary layers dating back to the Middle and Proterozoic Era and three volcanic basins, the silica wood is the largest of its kind in North China. Among them are Hongshiwan Dome crushed by crustal stress, folded Liudaohe Anticline ,swordshaped Shujianfeng Monocline, Tiansheng Bridge and Wulong Ravine shaped by wind erosion. The transformation of ocean and land reveals sedimentary geology of the Middle and Proterozoic Era. The power of nature creates s sweep of picturesque farmland. The Baihe River enjoys a breathtaking view and its beauty on both banks is beyond description. The Little Kunlun Mountain is precipitous and lofty; the Lake of Heaven reflects towering Yanshan Mountain range; waterfalls leap upon Dripping Kettle; crystal clear water gurgles around rocks in Wulong Ravine. Birds chirp in the tranquil Yunlong Mountain and trees are lush green and flowers are in full bloom in Datan second growth nature reserve. Ancient utensils in Gujiayao are reminiscent of the dusted past.
